Gambiaj.com – (KIGALI, Rwanda) – The Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Rwanda, CG Felix Namuhoranye, and his Gambian counterpart, Gen. Seedy Muctar Touray, have agreed to deepen their collaboration to address shared security challenges. The two leaders met on Monday, December 2, at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru as part of a week-long visit by the Gambian delegation aimed at strengthening ties between the two police institutions.
During their bilateral meeting, IGP Namuhoranye highlighted the importance of the partnership, describing it as a pivotal step toward enhancing the capabilities of both forces. He noted that the collaboration provides an opportunity for the two nations to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and develop strategies to combat emerging security threats.
“This meeting will open many doors for collaboration, paving the way for continued knowledge sharing, exchanging experiences, and establishing strong partnership strategies,” Namuhoranye said. “As we embark on this new chapter of partnership, our goal should focus on building the strength and capacity needed to address common security challenges in both of our countries.”
He expressed gratitude to the leadership of both nations for fostering a foundation for the partnership and emphasized the need for unified efforts to achieve shared goals and address transnational security threats.
IGP Touray commended Rwanda’s achievements in policing, both domestically and internationally, citing them as a valuable resource for The Gambia, which is undergoing reforms in its security institutions. He emphasized that the partnership with Rwanda offers a unique opportunity to learn from its experiences and implement effective strategies in The Gambia.
The discussions resulted in an agreement to prioritize collaboration through knowledge exchange, capacity building, and the development of long-term strategies to address evolving threats. Both forces also pledged to strengthen ties by organizing training programs and joint initiatives to enhance the professional skills of their officers.
As part of the visit, Gen. Touray and his delegation will tour various RNP departments and training facilities, gaining insights into Rwanda’s operational systems and advanced policing techniques.
This collaboration signifies a milestone in the relationship between the two nations, setting the stage for a unified approach to maintaining peace and stability in their respective regions.
