Gambiaj.com – (Dakar, Senegal) – The health condition of Samuel Sarr, the former Managing Director of West African Energy (WAE) and ex-Minister of Energy under President Abdoulaye Wade, is reportedly deteriorating as he remains in detention on charges of abusing corporate goods amounting to 8 billion CFA francs.
Incarcerated since October last year, Sarr has been repeatedly hospitalized, with his legal team raising alarm over his worsening condition. According to L’Observateur, Sarr has been evacuated for medical treatment four times since being transferred to the special pavilion of Le Dantec hospital.
His lawyers have petitioned the court to assess whether his health is compatible with continued detention, citing a medical certificate from cardiologist Dr. Adama Gning Diop. The document highlights a “high cardiovascular risk” linked to multiple chronic conditions, including type 2 diabetes.
In response, Judge Makha Barry has granted the request for a medical evaluation and appointed Professor Maïmouna Ndour to conduct an expert assessment of Sarr’s health. The court has set a one-month deadline for the completion of this medical review.
The findings of the medical examination are expected to play a crucial role in determining whether Sarr will remain in custody or if his detention conditions will be reconsidered.
