Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Gambia’s SBEC International School has confirmed that all previously withheld IGCSE results have now been released, following the conclusion of an investigation into alleged exam malpractice involving the school’s Biology paper.
Multiple sources within the school concurrently disclosed that Cambridge International has officially cleared SBEC’s examination center of all malpractice allegations. According to the sources, Cambridge has also permanently banned the specific teacher implicated in the case from handling any Cambridge syllabus at any center.
The issue dates back to August, when SBEC notified parents that its IGCSE Biology paper had been leaked. The school reported the matter to Cambridge International, prompting a joint investigation by the examination body, the school, and the Cyber Crime Unit of The Gambia Police Force.
While the inquiry was ongoing, Cambridge withheld the school’s IGCSE results, leading to weeks of uncertainty for students and families.
In a message to the school community, SBEC authorities described the outcome as a triumph of transparency and integrity.
“This outcome is a powerful reminder that truth always prevails,” the statement noted. “Throughout this difficult and uncertain period, each of us stood firm with patience, professionalism, and faith. We continued to serve our students with excellence and integrity, even when times were tough.”
With the matter now resolved, school officials say staff and students can continue normal academic activity without doubts surrounding the integrity of the institution.
“We are grateful for the support of the parents, students, and the community during this challenging time, and we are eager to move forward and focus on the bright future ahead,” the school stated, reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence and ethical standards.
The release of the results is expected to bring relief to affected students who had been awaiting confirmation of their academic standings for university and scholarship applications.
