Gambiaj.com – (Rufisque, Senegal) – Authorities have carried out a major drug seizure on the outskirts of Rufisque, intercepting 643 kilograms of pure cocaine early Monday morning in the Noflaye suburb. The successful operation, conducted around 5 a.m., was the result of close collaboration between Senegal’s Customs Service and the National Gendarmerie.
According to official sources, the operation was triggered by targeted intelligence concerning ongoing narcotics trafficking in the area.
Acting on the tip-off, the territorial gendarmerie brigade of Sangalkam and the Dakar-Exterior Customs subdivision deployed a surveillance unit that spotted a suspicious white Toyota Prado parked along a laterite road.
The mixed patrol team then surprised three individuals in the act of transferring suspicious packages into two vans—a Mercedes and a Peugeot. While two suspects managed to flee the scene, one was apprehended on the spot.
A thorough search of the vehicles led to the discovery of 643 one-kilogram packets of cocaine hidden inside jute sacks. Field testing conducted by the Gendarmerie’s Anti-Drug Task Force (GLAD) confirmed the substance as pure cocaine.
The seized narcotics have been secured by authorities, and a formal investigation is now underway to identify the accomplices and map out the trafficking network involved.
This seizure marks one of the most significant cocaine interceptions in the country this year, highlighting the persistent threat of drug trafficking in the region and the growing importance of inter-agency collaboration in combating organized crime.
