Gambiaj.com – (KEUR AYIB, Senegal) – The Defense and Security Forces of Senegal and The Gambia conducted joint patrols along their shared border on Thursday, February 27, 2025, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance regional security. The operation, which began at 9 a.m. in the border area of Keur Ayib, aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two neighboring nations in addressing transnational threats, including terrorism, smuggling, and illegal migration.
Security forces from both countries worked in close coordination, sharing intelligence and resources to ensure the safety of communities along the border.
According to security sources in Senegal, these joint operations are expected to continue as they not only reinforce border security but also foster trust among local populations while testing the interoperability of internal security forces.
The latest patrol follows a similar initiative in August 2024, when the armed forces of Senegal and The Gambia conducted a three-day joint security operation near Keur Ayib. That mission covered 30 border villages around the Kerr Ali border in The Gambia’s North Bank Region.
Both governments have reiterated their commitment to deepening security cooperation, recognizing the importance of joint efforts in tackling evolving cross-border challenges.
