Gambiaj.com – (BISSAU) – During his visit to Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye held a joint press conference with his Guinean counterpart, President Umaro Sissoco Embaló, reaffirming the strong ties between their countries and highlighting areas for further collaboration.
President Embaló recalled the longstanding and strategic partnership between Senegal and Guinea-Bissau, particularly in defense, security, and training. He emphasized the need to deepen these historic ties, stating, “Our two countries can and must do more.”
Economically, President Faye encouraged the private sectors of both nations to collaborate and capitalize on the opportunities presented by increased trade and private investment. He emphasized the importance of leveraging these partnerships for mutual benefit.
Both leaders agreed to convene the joint committee between Senegal and Guinea-Bissau promptly to advance their shared agenda. They also discussed international issues, noting their countries’ aligned positions on major subregional, regional, and international matters.
President Faye expressed commitment to advancing African integration, highlighting the importance of building on the work of the continent’s founding fathers. He emphasized the need for a unified approach, stating, “What is imperative for us, as an obligation, is to finish what the founding fathers started.”
