Gambiaj.com – Senegalese security forces are searching for two fugitives who allegedly fled into The Gambia after committing crimes in separate incidents in the country.

In the first case, police in Dakar are investigating a fraudulent migration scheme after victims, including Y. Doucouré and S. Dembélé, accused a man identified as A. Kanuteh of swindling them out of six million CFA francs. The victims say Kanuteh lured them with false promises of travel to Europe.

Investigators believe Kanuteh operated with the assistance of B. Soumaré, who allegedly provided fake residence permits, arranged airline tickets, and facilitated boarding at Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD).

The fraudulent network succeeded in putting seven individuals on a flight that transited through Cape Verde using counterfeit French travel documents. However, the group was intercepted, arrested, and deported back to Senegal.

Soumaré has since been arrested and reportedly confessed to his role, admitting he acted under Kanuteh’s instructions.

Police say evidence retrieved from his mobile phone revealed a trove of forged documents, further exposing the scale of the operation. Kanuteh remains at large and is believed to be hiding in The Gambia.

In a separate case, authorities in the Sédhiou region have launched an investigation into the killing of a woman in the village of Samakoung, near the Gambian border.

According to local reports, the suspect—her husband—fatally attacked her on Thursday before fleeing across the border.

Some villagers claimed the victim was pregnant, but the local health officer said this could not be confirmed, as she had not been recently examined at the health post.

The motive for the killing is still unknown, and Senegalese authorities have opened a formal inquiry while working with regional security services to locate the suspect, who is also believed to be in The Gambia.
