Gambiaj.com – (Dakar, Senegal) – Former Energy Minister Samuel Sarr has once again been denied provisional release as he remains in detention since November. His latest bail request, submitted on February 14 to the investigating judge of the second cabinet, was rejected on Tuesday, February 25, by the judge of the eighth cabinet, who took over the case due to the initial judge’s unavailability.
The magistrate justified the rejection by citing the absence of new developments since Sarr’s previous bail request was denied. Furthermore, the judge expressed concerns that releasing Sarr could interfere with the ongoing investigation, potentially allowing coordination or collusion with other parties involved in the case.
The decision comes as Sarr awaits a ruling from the Court of Appeals’ indictment chamber, which is set to decide on his case on March 4. His defense team has also challenged the investigating judge’s order, adding another layer to the legal battle surrounding the former director of West African Energy (WAE).
Samuel Sarr, former Energy Minister under Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade, has been indicted and placed under remand custody in November last year, following allegations of financial impropriety. Sarr faces charges of misuse of corporate assets, including embezzling 8 billion CFA francs from West African Energy.
As the legal proceedings continue, all eyes will be on the upcoming court decision, which could determine whether Sarr remains in detention or secures his release.
