Gambiaj.com – (DAKAR, Senegal) – The Senegalese government has opened an official investigation into the recent death of former Minister of Finance and Budget, Mamadou Moustapha Ba, following his passing in France on Monday. The Public Prosecutor at the High Court of Dakar confirmed the probe, citing elements within the circumstances of Ba’s death that have raised concerns and warrant closer examination.
The former minister recently faced accusations by Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko over alleged manipulation of Senegal’s economic data. He succumbed to an illness that reportedly left him in a coma for days. His family members have since called for an investigation, describing his death as “mysterious.”
According to a press release issued Saturday, the Dakar Prosecutor, invoking Article 66 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, announced the initiation of a post-mortem inquiry to ascertain the exact cause of Ba’s death. An autopsy has been ordered to clarify any potentially suspicious factors surrounding his passing.
The Public Prosecutor explained that the information received on the circumstances of Ba’s death suggested factors that justified further investigation to determine its cause. While Ba reportedly died following an illness, officials have not disclosed specific details about the elements that aroused their suspicion.
The unexpected nature of this investigation has sparked widespread interest and speculation within Senegal. Ba, who served in the Ministry of Finance and Budget, was well-regarded for his efforts to stabilize the country’s economic policies. His passing has left both the public and officials seeking clarity on what transpired in his final days.
The autopsy results are expected to shed light on the exact causes of his death, potentially providing answers to the questions now surrounding this tragic and unforeseen event.
