Gambiaj.com – (DAKAR, Senegal) – Senegal has registered its first confirmed case of Mpox, commonly known as monkeypox, prompting swift action from health authorities to contain the spread of the virus.
The Ministry of Health announced that investigations are underway to track all individuals who may have been exposed to the infected person. So far, 25 contacts have been identified.
“We have advanced in the investigation and were able to list a group of 25 contacts, meaning people who had contact with the confirmed case,” explained Mamadou Ndiaye, Director of Prevention at the Ministry of Health.
Ndiaye clarified that none of these contacts are currently ill but stressed that they will be closely monitored for at least 21 days—the incubation period for Mpox—to ensure no symptoms emerge.
“We will check whether they develop a fever or skin lesions so that if anything arises, we can act quickly,” he added.
The health ministry has urged the public to remain calm but vigilant, underscoring its commitment to preventing further spread of the virus through strict monitoring and timely interventions.
