The Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) has officially declared its support for Bassirou Diomaye Faye in the upcoming presidential election scheduled for this Sunday, March 24. The Secretary General of the party, Me Abdoulye Wade, made this announcement in a statement released to the press.
“After the scandalous elimination of our candidate, Karim Wade, by the Constitutional Council, a decision that deeply outraged us, the support of the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) has been sought by most of the candidates vying in the presidential election.
We are at a pivotal moment in our history, where today’s votes will shape the landscape of our common future. Given the current situation, the PDS has the urgent duty to take a stance. The idea that a state could be hijacked to serve private and selfish interests is profoundly intolerable to us.
In the spirit of responsibility towards our homeland, and with an unwavering determination to defend the principles of our democracy and the integrity of our Republic, our political party has chosen to throw its full support behind the Diomaye Faye Coalition for next Sunday’s presidential election.
I am convinced that the renewal of the rule of law and the guarantee of a fully independent judiciary are essential to building a prosperous and just Senegal. The Diomaye Faye Coalition has made strong commitments in these areas. I call on all Senegalese, without distinction, to join us in this march towards a renewed Senegal. A Senegal where every citizen will be assured of their fundamental rights and where the state will truly fulfill its role as the guardian of the common good.
We must mobilize for a victory that will symbolize the aspirations of an entire people for governance based on morality, ethics, and inclusivity. Aware of the crucial stakes of preserving our democratic achievements and committed to the relentless pursuit of the well-being of the Senegalese people, for whom I have fought all my life, I invite you to vote with conviction for the Diomaye Faye Coalition from the first round.”
This declaration by the PDS signals a significant shift in the political landscape ahead of the presidential election, with the endorsement of Bassirou Diomaye Faye potentially altering the dynamics of the race. With just days left until the polls open, all eyes are on Senegal as the country prepares to choose its next leader.
