Gambiaj.com – (DAKAR, Senegal) – In a viral video that has stirred political discourse in Senegal, Corporal Fall, a former soldier, accused senior military figures, including General Souleymane Kandé and Gendarmerie General Moussa Fall, of involvement in a purportedly foiled coup attempt during the regime of former President Macky Sall.
The allegations specifically target General Kandé, recently reassigned as Senegal’s defense and security attaché at the country’s embassy in New Delhi, India.
Responding to the accusations, General Kandé filed a legal complaint against Corporal Fall, vehemently denying the claims and seeking redress. The allegations surfaced on a prominent Senegalese news platform, amplifying the intrigue surrounding the general’s recent reassignment.
In May 2024, Kandé, a former Senegalese army chief of staff, was appointed to the New Delhi position, a decision viewed by some as a veiled demotion.
Kandé himself voiced similar sentiments, asserting that his experience and rank merited an ambassadorial role. Disputing his reassignment, Kandé petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn the decree, a move that has delayed his relocation to India pending the court’s ruling.
Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, addressing the matter at a campaign event in Ziguinchor, dismissed rumors linking the decision to Kandé’s handling of the Casamance conflict. Sonko instead suggested that the reassignment was related to a classified report citing actions that purportedly aimed to sabotage the recent presidential election.
Meanwhile, General Kandé’s career has drawn significant attention in diplomatic circles, particularly for his close ties with France. In recognition of his role in strengthening Senegalese-French military relations, French President Emmanuel Macron awarded him the Legion of Honor in June 2024.
Madiambal Diagne, a journalist with the Avenir Communication Media Group, confirmed that General Kandé remains in Dakar as he awaits the Supreme Court’s decision on his petition, adding yet another layer to a complex saga that intertwines legal, political, and military narratives.
