Gambiaj.com – (DAKAR, Senegal) – Things are tightening around Moustapha Diop, the Member of Parliament and Mayor of Louga, as Senegalese judicial authorities move to strip him of parliamentary immunity over allegations of misappropriating public funds. The case revolves around the alleged embezzlement of 734 million CFA francs from the Energy Sector Regulatory Commission (CRS), reportedly orchestrated by Treasury Inspector Tabaski Ngom.
According to investigators, Ngom illicitly redirected the funds, distributing them among various individuals, including Diop. The money was allegedly used to finance political campaigns ahead of the legislative elections.
Diop, a former minister in President Macky Sall’s administration, has been named in testimonies given by Ngom and other accused individuals. However, his parliamentary immunity has so far shielded him from legal questioning. In light of this, the financial prosecutor has now formally requested the investigating judge to lift Diop’s immunity, paving the way for legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, authorities have already taken action against other key figures in the case. Both Tabaski Ngom and Mor Guèye are in custody under a warrant issued by the financial investigating judge. Another suspect, Momath Ba, was granted bail after making a payment of 90 million CFA francs.
The case is expected to add further political turbulence to Senegal, as scrutiny over financial mismanagement and corruption intensifies ahead of key political transitions.
