Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL) – In a significant development during the 15th Islamic Summit session on May 4–5, 2024, the Senegalese News Agency (APS) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) General Secretariat signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Media Cooperation. This agreement aims to bolster collaboration between the two entities in various media-related activities.
The MoU focuses on enhancing cooperation in media content, information gathering, information sharing, databases, career training, and increased media exposure for the OIC. Signed by the Director-General of APS, Thierno Ahmadou SY, and the Acting Director of the Information Department at the OIC General Secretariat, Dr. Abdelhamid Salhi, the agreement signifies a deepening of ties between Senegal and the OIC.
As one of the founding members of the OIC, Senegal plays a crucial role in strengthening the organization’s relations. The Acting Director of the OIC Information Department highlighted the media’s vital role in promoting unity and communication among Islamic peoples and nations.
Acknowledging the OIC’s initiatives and accomplishments, the Director General of APS expressed readiness to disseminate information about the OIC’s activities to address the challenges facing the Islamic world.
The MoU is set to be implemented promptly, with both parties committed to holding regular meetings to assess progress and identify areas for improvement. This agreement is part of the OIC General Secretariat’s efforts to enhance cooperation with national and international media to accurately portray the Islamic world and counter negative campaigns seeking to tarnish its image.
