Senegalese Shot Gambian Timber Log Smugglers Near Kanilai; Government Confirms Incident

Gambiaj.com – KANILAI, The Gambia – Early today, Gambian local media reported that Amadou Juma Camara, a Gambian truck driver, was shot by Senegalese soldiers near Kanilai while transporting timber from the Casamance region. Camara is currently receiving treatment at the Ndemban clinic.

Two other individuals were also reportedly shot during the incident. Relatives of Camara stated that he was driving a truck loaded with timber logs smuggled from Casamance when he was shot, but managed to escape. However, his apprentice remains missing.

Later in the afternoon, the Gambian government issued a statement confirming the shooting incident. However, in the government report, the victim was identified as Amadou Jah. The statement from the Ministry of Information reads:

“The Ministry of Information regrets to inform the general public of a confirmed incident involving one Amadou Jah from Kampant, Foni Kansala, who was shot by Senegalese soldiers at Kelantan in Cassamance. The exact time of the incident is yet to be determined. According to our sources, Mr. Jah was contracted by Jarreh Sonko, a log dealer and native of Mandina, Foni Kansala, to procure timber logs from Cassamance. Upon reaching Kelantan, Mr. Jah was shot by Senegalese soldiers. He was transported to the Fourth Infantry Battalion in Kanilai around 12:30 AM and subsequently rushed to Bwiam Hospital. He has since been referred to Ndemban Hospital for further medical treatment.”

Further reports indicate that Mr. Jah was accompanied by two apprentices, one known by the nickname “50.” They were last seen in the vicinity of Kanilai.

The Ministry assured the public that more information would be provided as it becomes available and urged everyone to remain calm and await further updates from official channels.
