Gambiaj.com – (DAKAR) – The Senegalese wrestling world is in mourning following the death of Gaston Mbengue, one of its most prominent promoters. Known as “The Don King,” he passed away on Wednesday, May 1st, at Bellevue Clinic around 8:30 p.m. after a long illness.
An iconic figure in the wrestling scene, he was renowned for being one of the greatest wrestling promoters in Senegal, thus leaving a mark on the sport’s history.
Gaston Mbengue managed to capture the hearts of wrestling enthusiasts through his numerous epic fights and innovative initiatives in promotion. His unwavering commitment has made him a true legend of Senegalese wrestling.
Gaston Mbengue had been undergoing medical treatment outside of Senegal for several months. Born in Louga, he was the younger brother of Senegal’s renowned politician, Aminata Mbengue Ndiaye, who serves as the president of the High Council of Territorial Communities (HCCT). Additionally, he was the father of wrestling promoter Makane Mbengue.
While his passing leaves a huge void in the wrestling world, his legacy will endure through future generations.
