Gambiaj.com – (DAKAR, Senegal) – Senegal’s Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has announced the initiation of a comprehensive accountability and transparency inquest targeting officials from the previous Macky Sall administration. This legal investigation is set to begin within the week and aims to address concerns over the ethical use of public funds and combat corruption within the government.

Sonko emphasized the urgency of the measures, stating, “It is this concern that drives us when we raise the debate on accountability, which will start now, this very week, and which will spread out as long as necessary.

He underscored that public contracts, land deals, and defense-related contracts will be scrutinized, warning that “People cannot afford anything at a cost of billions on land, on built land, on the public contracts and bids, on contracts classified as defense secrets, on concessions, and so on.

The Prime Minister also revealed that precautionary measures have been implemented to prevent former officials from evading the investigation. “There are 3 or 4 who were able to escape, but if we have to pull them by their toes, we will. They will come back,” Sonko asserted.

In related news, the Senegalese Ministry of Justice, headed by Ousmane Diagne, has announced the postponement of a scheduled press conference.

Initially set for Thursday, September 5, at 4 PM, the conference was intended to address issues such as the abolition of the High Council of Territorial Communities, the Economic, Social and Environmental Council, accountability measures, and the dissolution of the National Assembly.

The Ministry has not yet provided a rescheduled date for this press engagement, citing the need for further adjustments.
