Sierra Leone – 57 Arrested in Connection With Failed Coup Attempt

Yusuf Keketoma Sandi, the Deputy Minister of Information and Civic Education, revealed that 57 people had been arrested in relation to the attempted coup that was foiled on November 26 in Sierra Leone.

According to reports,  the security forces have also apprehended Amadu “Koita” Makalo, the purported ringleader of the abortive coup attempt.

The suspect, a retired military officer, was allegedly taken into custody near Mount Aureol in Freetown’s subterranean area.

37 members of the armed forces, 10 civilians, 4 fired soldiers, 5 active police officers, and 1 retired police officer are among the 57 people who have been imprisoned thus far.

Authorities have moved quickly to restore order and prosecute those responsible for the incident, which attempted to undermine the stability of the nation.

Sierra Leone, a country that aspires to both prosperity and peace, has been steadfast in upholding its democratic values in the face of this disconcerting development.

Security personnel are still looking into the failed coup, concentrating on determining the reasons behind the arrests and their connections.

In the wake of this incident, the administration of President Julius Maada Bio has stressed the significance of maintaining the rule of law and guaranteeing the protection and security of its residents.
