Gambiaj.com – (KANIFING) – A Sierra Leonean national, Aiah Williams, appeared before Magistrate Thomas Touray at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, facing charges of breaking into a building and stealing items valued at D107,900 from the Family Planning Association.
Williams was charged with one count of breaking into a building contrary to Section 283(b) and one count of stealing contrary to Section 252 of the Criminal Code Cap 10:01 Volume 3 laws of The Gambia.
According to the prosecution, Williams allegedly broke into the Family Planning Association building in Kanifing on or about April 28, with the intent of committing a felony. He is accused of stealing various items including a printer valued at D25,000, three wax clothes valued at D2,400, Mbasayn valued at D6,500, 2 CPU keyboards, a computer screen, and a mouse valued at D58,000, two flash drives valued at D600, an external drive valued at D400, and a laptop valued at D15,000, totaling D107,900, all belonging to the Family Planning Association.
The prosecuting officer, Sergeant Saffie Bah, representing the Inspector General of Police, applied for an adjournment to provide the court with witnesses.
Magistrate Touray, in his ruling, granted the accused bail in the sum of D150,000 or two Gambian sureties who shall deposit their valid ID cards.
The matter has been adjourned until May 23, 2024, for further proceedings.
