Gambiaj.com – (Banjul, The Gambia) – Sierra Leone’s President and newly appointed ECOWAS Chairman, Dr. Julius Maada Bio, will arrive in The Gambia on Thursday, 14 August 2025, for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral and regional cooperation.
President Bio will meet with President Adama Barrow at the State House in Banjul, followed by a private dinner. The two leaders are expected to discuss key regional priorities, including security, democracy, and economic integration.
A joint press conference is scheduled for Friday, 15 August 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Banjul International Airport before President Bio’s departure.
President Bio assumed the ECOWAS chairmanship last month, succeeding Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu, who held the role for two years. Upon taking office, Bio outlined four key priorities for his tenure: restoring constitutional order and deepening democracy, revitalizing regional security cooperation, unlocking economic integration, and strengthening institutional credibility.
His visit to The Gambia comes against the backdrop of ECOWAS’ ongoing security presence in the country through the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG), deployed since 2017 to support stability following the political transition.
