Algiers

Gambiaj.com – (DAKAR, Senegal) – Algeria’s state-owned electricity and gas company, Sonelgaz, has announced plans to hold videoconference consultation meetings with energy sector leaders from Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, and Cape Verde to explore potential cooperation opportunities.

According to a statement from the company, this initiative aligns with the directives of Algeria’s leadership to strengthen economic ties with African nations, particularly in West Africa. Sonelgaz CEO Mourad Adjal reaffirmed the company’s commitment to regional expansion, citing the successful collaboration with Niger’s electricity provider, Nigelec, as a model for future partnerships.

Encouraged by these achievements, Sonelgaz aims to engage with energy officials and operators from the four West African nations to assess areas for collaboration.

Additionally, the company is preparing a working visit to Senegal in coordination with Algeria’s embassy. This visit, to be led by Adjal and a delegation of Sonelgaz executives, will include officials from several public and private firms within the energy sector’s value chain.

Senegal’s Ambassador to Algeria has welcomed Sonelgaz’s ongoing expansion efforts, praising the company’s achievements on the African continent. He highlighted the importance of supporting its entry into new markets, emphasizing that this move aligns with Algeria’s broader economic strategy for Africa.

The upcoming consultations and visits mark another step in Algeria’s push to enhance its influence in the African energy sector, as Sonelgaz seeks to establish itself as a key player in regional electricity cooperation.
