The attack on Maïmouna Ndour Faye, journalist and manager of 7 TV, has shocked Senegal. The assailant, who ambushed her outside her home, stabbed her three times and fled with her handbag, which was later found emptied of its contents except for her identity documents.
Fortunately, Maïmouna’s life is not in danger, as confirmed by Sékou Dramé, the editor-in-chief of 7TV. She is currently receiving treatment at the Ouakam military hospital in Dakar.
Dramé explained that Maïmouna was on the phone at the time of the attack, and it was the person on the line who alerted others to come to her rescue. Despite this traumatic experience, colleagues and friends describe Maïmouna as a courageous and professional woman who will come back stronger.
In solidarity, Senegalese journalists gathered in front of the 7TV premises to show support for their colleague. State authorities and the political class have also condemned the attack, emphasizing the importance of freedom of the press and safety for journalists. The Research Section (SR) of the Senegalese National Gendarmerie is now handling the investigation.
