Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – Kombo Kerewan Upper Basic School was thrown into chaos this afternoon after a student was stabbed by another boy in a violent attack that has reignited concerns over school safety.
According to a teacher at the school, the stabbing took place between 12 and 1 p.m. when the suspect, a male student, attacked and stabbed his victim before fleeing the scene. The injured student was bleeding heavily and was immediately rushed to the hospital.
The attack disrupted lessons as students mobilized to locate the suspect, eventually finding him in hiding. However, before tensions escalated further, teachers intervened to prevent mob justice and contacted the police, who arrived to arrest the boy.
This is not the first time the suspect has been involved in a violent incident on school grounds. Last year, he reportedly threw a stone into a classroom, injuring a student on the head. The matter was handled lightly at the time, with the suspect being briefly detained and then released.
In the wake of today’s stabbing, the victim, a Grade 8 student, has been transferred to a hospital in Banjul for further medical care. The incident has also sparked criticism of the school administration, with parents expressing frustration over what they see as negligence in handling the previous case. Many are now calling for stricter security measures to protect students.
The community of Kombo Kerewan is in shock, with residents demanding swift justice for the victim and stricter policies to prevent such violence in the future. As investigations continue, pressure is mounting on school authorities and law enforcement to take decisive action to ensure student safety.
