Suspected Drug Overdose Claims Life of Young Man in Old Yundum

Gambiaj.com – (Old Yundum, The Gambia) – The Gambia Police Force has confirmed the death of a man in Old Yundum following suspected drug abuse involving a substance known as “Khush.”

According to a police report released Saturday, July 12, 2025, Ousman Jallow collapsed after allegedly smoking the substance. He was rushed to the Kanifing General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The case has been registered as an incident of alleged drug abuse causing death. Authorities have not yet released further details pending investigation and toxicology results.

Drug abuse continues to pose serious health risks and can have fatal consequences,” the police statement warned. “We urge members of the public, particularly youth, to stay away from harmful substances and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.”

This incident comes amid growing concern over the increasing use of synthetic and unknown drugs in communities across The Gambia. Law enforcement agencies have recently stepped up efforts to combat drug trafficking and consumption, particularly in urban centers and school zones.

The police are calling on anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist with ongoing investigations.
