Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – As part of an ongoing investigation into questionable land transactions, a Task Force Committee, led by Chairperson Kebba Njie, conducted an inspection on Saturday, October 4, 2024, of several properties leased by exiled former President Yahya Jammeh.
The committee’s investigation, mandated to delve into land transactions that went unaddressed in the Janneh Commission report, aims to bring transparency to land acquisitions involving government layouts and reserved lands.
During its engagement, the Task Force Committee reviewed extensive documentation tied to these transactions, assessing lease terms and verifying their legitimacy. Members of the committee also conducted interviews with individuals directly involved in the land deals, seeking further details and evidence to support their investigation.
This information will play a vital role in determining whether any of the transactions were marred by corruption or abuse of power.
In its upcoming report, the committee is expected to identify illegal land allocations, evaluate adherence to regulatory standards, and verify the status of government-reserved lands.
The investigation’s findings are highly anticipated by the public, as they could bring to light potential misconduct in past land transactions and reinforce the importance of transparency and accountability in future land management.
The Ministry of Lands, Regional Government, and Religious Affairs issued a press release affirming its commitment to responsible land administration, pledging that any wrongdoing uncovered by the committee would serve as a catalyst for stricter oversight in land dealings.
