Gambiaj.com – (Banjul, the Gambia)- Speaking at the 80th United Nations General Assembly, Gambia’s Vice President Mohammed B.S. Jallow reaffirmed the country’s support for a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict and urged the international community to take decisive action to restore Palestinian self-determination.
“The plight of the Palestinians remains unresolved, with innocent civilians continuing to face dire humanitarian conditions,” Jallow told delegates. “Yet, the Palestinian predicament predominantly rests on the core principles of justice, respect for international humanitarian law, and self-determination.”
Jallow emphasized the urgency of collective international action to revive an inclusive peace process for Israel, Palestine, and the broader region. He noted that worsening conditions in Gaza and the West Bank demand immediate attention.
The Vice President reiterated The Gambia’s longstanding position in favor of Palestinian statehood. “The Gambia re-echoes its call for a two-state solution to urgently enable the Palestinian people to regain their legitimate national rights, as recognized by the international community within the 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al Shareef as its capital,” he said.
He also voiced support for Palestine’s bid for full membership in the United Nations, describing such recognition as a “vital step” toward securing Palestinian rights and advancing durable peace.
Jallow acknowledged recent diplomatic initiatives, including the High-Level Conference on the Question of Palestine convened by Saudi Arabia and France, noting their contributions to revitalizing the peace process.
“The bleeding must stop soonest,” Jallow said, underlining the urgency of ending hostilities and ensuring humanitarian access.
