Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC) has officially declared the commencement of Ramadan 1446H (2025) on Saturday, March 1, following confirmed crescent moon sightings in The Gambia and several other countries.
According to the GSIC, the crescent moon was sighted in Garawol, located in the Upper River Region (URR) of The Gambia. Similar confirmations came from Niger, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, signaling the beginning of the holy month of fasting for Muslims worldwide.
Ramadan is a sacred period of fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection observed by Muslims across the globe. During this month, the faithful refrain from eating, drinking, and other physical needs from dawn until sunset, while also engaging in acts of worship, charity, and self-discipline.
The date for Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, will also depend on the lunar cycle and is anticipated to fall on March 30 or 31, 2025.
As the nation embarks on this spiritual journey, The Gambia Journal extends warm wishes to all Muslims, praying for a month filled with peace, blessings, and divine mercy. Ramadan Mubarak!
