Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – Three men have appeared before the High Court in Banjul on multiple charges of robbery and conspiracy in connection with a series of violent incidents that took place in Kiang Keneba and other parts of The Gambia earlier this year.
The accused—Momodou Lamin Bah, Alagie Kah, and Biram Bah—are facing a slew of serious charges, including conspiracy to commit robbery, armed robbery, and theft.
The State alleges that the trio orchestrated a coordinated robbery spree on February 23, 2024, targeting key institutions in the Lower River Region.
According to the indictment filed by State Counsel H. Drammeh on behalf of the Attorney General, the men first struck at the Medical Research Council (MRC), where they allegedly stole a vehicle with registration number MRC257.
The prosecution claims the suspects were armed with dangerous weapons at the time of the attack.
The same day, the accused reportedly carried out another robbery at Yonna Forex Bureau in Keneba, where they allegedly made off with D38,300 in cash. A third incident involved MS1 Forex Bureau, where they are said to have stolen a safe containing D86,666.
In addition to these robberies, the State claims the suspects stole two hammers—a large one valued at D3,000 and a smaller one worth D2,000—both said to belong to one Muhammed Lamin Ceesay.
The High Court proceedings follow earlier police investigations, which led to the arrest of the three accused shortly after the February robberies.
On March 1, 2024, the Gambia Police Force announced the capture of a suspect in connection with the same incidents.
That arrest occurred during an ambush in Kerr Ngor Nyan Village that left two Police Intervention Unit (PIU) officers injured.
A search of one of the suspects’ residence uncovered cash, new clothing, shoes, a cutlass, an axe, and several mobile phones — items believed to be linked to the Keneba robberies. All suspects were taken into custody and, according to police, have been cooperating with investigators.
The High Court is expected to set a full trial date in the coming days.
