Gambiaj.com – (DAKAR, Senegal) – In a solemn announcement on Sunday, June 16, 2024, the Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs of Senegal shared the tragic news of the deaths of three Senegalese pilgrims in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
These devout Muslims, who had traveled to the sacred sites through private tour operators to fulfill one of the fundamental pillars of Islam, sadly passed away on the holy grounds.
“The Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs has been informed of the death, in Mecca, of three (03) pilgrims, led by private tour operators,” stated the press release.
In response to this grievous event, Senegalese authorities acted swiftly. The Consul General of Senegal in Jeddah was immediately instructed to coordinate with the General Delegation for Pilgrimage to the Holy Places of Islam and the relevant Saudi authorities. Together, they are ensuring that all necessary arrangements for the burial of the deceased are made in accordance with Muslim tradition.
This tragic incident has cast a shadow over what is typically a spiritually fulfilling journey for thousands of Senegalese pilgrims each year. The Senegalese government, along with the families of the deceased, mourns this profound loss and extends heartfelt condolences to all affected.
