Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The trial of Ousainou Bojang and his sister Amie Bojang faced a delay as a key witness was unavailable to testify. Ousainou, a resident of Brufut, is facing multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, committing a terrorist act, and assault causing grievous bodily harm. Amie Bojang is charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder.

The charges stem from an incident on September 12, 2023, at the Sukuta traffic lights, where Ousainou allegedly shot three police officers, resulting in the deaths of two and severe injuries to another. Ousainou has denied all allegations in court.

During the last court session, the Director of Public Protection (DPP) Abdurrahman Maitama Yusuf informed the court that the state witness, designated as PW13, was bereaved and unable to attend. Yusuf requested an adjournment to a future date when the witness would be available.

Counsels for the defense, LJ Darboe representing Ousainou and O. Senghore, did not oppose the adjournment request. Additionally, Counsel Lamin J. Darboe informed the court that they had filed an application to recall previous witnesses PW1, PW2, and PW5 for further cross-examination. The prosecution had been served with this application in court, and both sides agreed to argue their positions on the next adjourned date, requesting ten minutes each for their arguments.

The case has been adjourned to July 2nd at 2:15 pm to accommodate the witness’s unavailability and address the application for recalling previous witnesses.
