Gambiaj.com – (WASHINGTON, DC) – In an announcement on social media Monday, President Donald Trump declared a “Complete and Total” ceasefire between Israel and Iran, expressing his hope for a permanent end to hostilities that he dubbed “the 12-day war.” The ceasefire, according to the President, is slated to commence in approximately six hours.
“It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in-progress, final missions!) for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED,” President Trump wrote in his online post.
Notably, neither Israel nor Iran has independently confirmed President Trump’s declaration. The President’s post outlined a phased implementation, with Iran initiating the ceasefire for the first 12 hours, followed by Israel.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was meeting with his narrow security cabinet, including Minister of Strategic Affairs, Foreign Minister, Defense Minister, Shas party chair, National Security Minister, and Finance Minister, following Trump’s ceasefire announcement.
“Upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World,” Trump stated, emphasizing that “During each CEASEFIRE, the other side will remain PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL.”
Moments after the President’s announcement, Vice President JD Vance appeared on Fox News, crediting Trump for successfully brokering the deal. “We were actually working on that just as I left the White House to come over here. So that’s good news, that the president was able to get that across the finish line,” Vance remarked.
Vance also revealed that he had seen a draft of Trump’s social media post just minutes before his interview, noting it was “a little bit different from what the president had showed me a couple of hours ago.” He added, “But again, I knew that he was working the phones as I was on the way over here.” In a significant assertion, Vance also claimed, “Iran is incapable of building a nuclear weapon with the equipment they have, because we destroyed it.”
Sources familiar with the diplomatic efforts indicate that President Trump spoke with the Emir of Qatar earlier on Monday, informing him that the United States had secured Israel’s agreement to a ceasefire with Iran.
Trump then reportedly requested Qatar’s assistance in persuading Iran to concur. Vice President Vance subsequently coordinated with the Qatari Prime Minister’s office on the specifics, leading to Iran’s agreement to the proposal after discussions with the Qatari Prime Minister.
Furthermore, a US official confirmed that President Trump had also engaged in a series of phone calls on Monday, including with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to facilitate Israel’s side of the agreement.
CNN has reached out to the White House for additional information regarding the ceasefire but has yet to receive a response. The international community now awaits official confirmation from Tehran and Jerusalem regarding this pivotal development.
