Gambiaj.com – (GUNJUR, The Gambia) – The Ambassador of Türkiye to The Gambia, H.E. F. Türker Oba, is scheduled to visit Gunjur on Friday to attend Jumuah prayers at the invitation of Dr. Amadou Scattred Janneh, the former Minister of Information and Communications.
Dr. Janneh, a native of Gunjur, has solicited the ambassador’s support in renovating the Gunjur Beach Mosque, a site of historical significance not only to Muslims in The Gambia but also to the Tijaniyyah Muslim community, particularly the disciples of the revered Sufi, Sheikh Oumar Foutiyou Tall.
The Gunjur Beach Mosque, known for its spiritual prominence, is one of the most visited sites in the area but is currently in need of refurbishment. The planned renovation aims to preserve its historical and religious importance while accommodating the growing number of worshipers and visitors.
During his visit, Ambassador F. Türker Oba will engage in discussions with religious and community leaders in Gunjur, focusing on the mosque’s renovation and other community development initiatives.
The ambassador’s visit underscores the longstanding and cordial relations between Türkiye and The Gambia, and it highlights Türkiye’s commitment to supporting local communities through cultural and religious preservation projects.
Following the Jumuah prayers, a welcoming ceremony will be held in the afternoon at Foday Kunda, where the ambassador will be received by community members and local leaders. The event is expected to strengthen ties between Türkiye and Gunjur, fostering greater collaboration in cultural and developmental endeavors.
