Gambiaj.com – (KANIFING) – In a Tuesday court proceeding at the Kanifing Magistrates Court, Alagie Njie and Assan Jobe were denied bail by Magistrate Touray for possession of prohibited cocaine. The duo, charged under section 43(4)b of the Drug Control Act 2003, were found in possession of 2 grams and 84 milligrams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. Both individuals pleaded not guilty to the charges.
E.S Ceesay, representing the Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG), requested the accused to be remanded at Mile 2 pending their bail application at the High Court, citing the seriousness of the offence.
Magistrate Touray, in accordance with section 132 of the Drug Control Act, granted the prosecution’s application, remanding Njie and Jobe at Mile 2 prison until their bail application at the High Court. The case was adjourned until 22nd May 2024.
In a separate development, Alagie Njie faced additional charges under section 35(1)b of the Drug Control Act 2003 for possession of cannabis. Njie, on or about 19th February in Kololi, Kanifing municipality, was found with 5 grams and 747 milligrams of cannabis. He pleaded not guilty to this charge as well.
Unlike the previous case, the prosecution did not object to Njie’s bail, instead requesting an adjournment to provide witnesses. Magistrate Touray granted Njie bail in the sum of D500,000 or two sureties who must deposit their valid ID cards. This case was also adjourned until 22nd May 2024.
