Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The United Democratic Party (UDP) has announced the successful conclusion of its internal elections to fill vacant positions in its National Executive, describing the process as fair, transparent, and reflective of the party’s democratic values.
The elections, held on Sunday, October 19, 2025, came at a time when the country’s main opposition force has been working to project internal cohesion following weeks of public debate over divisions within its ranks.
According to a statement issued by the party, more than thirty eligible candidates vied for the available positions, with each given “a meaningful opportunity to present their credentials and be considered.” The UDP stressed that the exercise was conducted strictly in line with its constitution and electoral guidelines.
The newly elected officials include Hon. Pa Manneh as Campaign Manager, Neneh Isatou Jallow as Deputy Campaign Manager, Sulayman Saho as National Organizing Secretary, Saikou Camara as Administrative Secretary for Media and Communications, Binett Marong as Deputy National Organizing Secretary, Jarga Mbowe as 2nd Vice President of the National Youth Wing, and Jarai Fayenkeh as 1st Vice President of the Female Youth Wing.
The UDP congratulated the winners and expressed gratitude to all applicants, saying the level of engagement demonstrated the party’s vibrancy and inclusivity.
The outcome is being closely watched within political circles. Analysts note that the UDP leadership has in recent weeks been engaged in damage control after internal disagreements spilled into the public domain, raising questions about cohesion ahead of the next electoral cycle.
By emphasizing fairness and inclusivity in this latest exercise, the party appears intent on reinforcing its image as a united and democratic force capable of contesting power against President Adama Barrow’s ruling National People’s Party (NPP).
With campaign and organizational roles now filled, the UDP has signaled readiness to step up preparations for future political battles.
In its release, the party reaffirmed its commitment to democratic governance, transparency, and inclusivity—principles it says will guide both its internal structures and its national political engagements.
