Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The United Democratic Party (UDP) has issued a public apology following a clarification regarding statements made by its leader, Ousainou Darboe, during a press conference on Tuesday.
In a statement released shortly after the event, the party acknowledged that the information Darboe received about the alleged transfer of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Binta Njie was incorrect.
“Following this afternoon’s press conference, H.E. Ousainou Darboe, Party Leader and Secretary General, was informed that the information he received regarding the alleged transfer of ASP Binta Njie was incorrect. We deeply regret this error and extend our sincere apologies to ASP Binta Njie, her family, and the public,” the UDP said.
The party’s swift response comes amid heightened political discourse, where concerns over security personnel assignments have been a topic of debate. While no further details were provided about how the misinformation arose, the UDP’s retraction aims to clarify the matter and prevent any undue speculation.
This development follows a press conference where Darboe addressed various national issues, including governance, security, and the rule of law. The incident highlights the ongoing scrutiny of political narratives and the sensitivity surrounding law enforcement affairs in the country.
