Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL) – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) launched its Human Development Report (HDR) for the years 2023-2024, titled “Breaking the Gridlock: Reimagining Cooperation in a Polarized World,”. This report, which began 34 years ago, aims to foster collective thought leadership on development and international collaboration.
The HDR provides valuable insights and analysis on critical global issues, shedding light on the root causes of gridlock and offering innovative solutions for overcoming it. The launch event featured presentations from prominent experts and stakeholders, discussing the key findings and recommendations of the report.
Mandisa Moshologu, UNDP Resident Representative, emphasized the report’s relevance to both nations and the global community, especially in addressing unprecedented challenges such as economic volatility, social unrest, and environmental degradation. She highlighted the importance of the HDR for The Gambia and other Least Developed Countries (LDCs), noting that the insights from the report provide a blueprint for action.
Abdoulie Jallow, speaking on behalf of the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, described the report as a guide for The Gambia in realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined in Agenda 2063. He emphasized the need to leverage collective capabilities to surmount challenges and construct a future that is resilient and prosperous for everyone.
Salimatta Touray, Secretary General of Civil Service, highlighted the report’s central theme, which reflects the obstacles confronting global society. She emphasized the importance of reimagining cooperation to unlock the potential for sustainable development and inclusive growth, including increasing funding to low and middle-income countries and revitalizing national institutions to rebuild trust.
The HDR’s findings underscore the importance of collective action in driving meaningful progress and laying the foundation for a more equitable and sustainable future for all.
