Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, the Gambia) – The University of The Gambia Student Union (UTGSU) has suspended its Vice President, H.E Yunusa Mbaye, due to misconduct in the execution of his duties. The suspension, effective from May 30th to June 14th, 2024, was announced by the Executive Council of the UTGSU and is in accordance with section 28(5) of the UTGSU constitution 2021 as amended.

The suspension comes following allegations of disrespectful behavior towards a fellow council member and their mother, as well as publicly opposing and acting against a council decision regarding the appointment of the Chairperson of the UTG Student Week 2024. These actions were deemed intolerable and contradictory to the values of respect and collegiality upheld by the council.

As a result of the suspension, Yunusa Mbaye is prohibited from performing any duties or exercising any powers associated with his role as Vice President. He is also required to relinquish all Union properties and is prohibited from representing the council in any capacity until June 14th.

The Executive Council stated that this disciplinary action was regrettable but necessary, citing a pattern of repeated behavior despite prior intervention and warnings.
