Voir Dire Continues in Police Murder Trial: Witness Testifies on Second Statement

Ousainou Bojang suspect

Alieu Cham, an independent witness, continued his testimony in the voir dire (mini-trial) of Ousainou and Amie Bojang, as the prosecution presented key evidence in the case. Ousainou Bojang, a resident of Brufut, faces charges of murder, attempted murder, committing a terrorist act, and assault causing grievous bodily harm, while his sister, Amie Bojang, is charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

The prosecution alleges that on 12 September 2023, Ousainou Bojang shot three police personnel at the Sukuta traffic lights, resulting in the death of two officers and leaving another with life-threatening injuries. However, Ousainou denied these allegations in court.

During Cham’s testimony, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) requested and received the cautionary statements of Ousainou Bojang from the court. Cham confirmed the authenticity of these statements, which included his identification number and thumbprint.

Cham also testified about a second statement obtained from Ousainou Bojang, which occurred five to seven days after the initial statement. He described being summoned to the Anti-Crime Unit, where they proceeded to the airport, then to the police station, and finally entered an office where Ousainou was brought in. Detective Sowe read out the charges to Ousainou, who did not accept any of them on that day.

Cham clarified that he did not witness any physical violence or administration of drugs to Ousainou during this process. The DPP concluded Cham’s testimony, marking another step in the ongoing legal proceedings against Ousainou and Amie Bojang.

The trial is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the case progresses.
