Vice President Muhammad B.S. Jallow met with Rwandan Prime Minister Dr. Édouard Ngirente on Tuesday in Kigali. The two officials held discussions to advance the two nations’ current cooperation, which has seen Rwandans learn from Gambians in the area of financial management systems, for instance.
Rwanda has adopted The Gambia’s Integrated Financial Information System (IFIMIS) to streamline planning, budgeting, payments, receipts, asset management, and accounting processes. This collaboration has improved fund allocation and management, enhancing Rwanda’s public sector reforms since 1994.
Gambian delegations visited Rwanda to learn about Rwanda’s public sector reforms since 1994, which aided Gambia’s 2018 reforms. Minister of Education Gaspard Twagirayezu appreciated South-to-South cooperation and discussed coordinating government business.
The Gambian delegation plans to learn from Rwanda’s National Dialogue, National Leaders Retreat, Presidential Citizens Outreach, and National Performance Contracts, as well as explore Rwanda’s EdTech education.
“Both countries have collaboration in financial technology but want to discuss more on how technology works in education and we have some education in technology projects that they will be touring,” Twagirayezu said.
Rwanda and Gambia are among the few African countries that have waived visas to African nationals, along with Benin and the Seychelles.
