Gambiaj.com – (LAGOS, Nigeria) – The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has unveiled a new initiative aimed at providing candidates the opportunity to retake their West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) papers earlier than usual. Dubbed “WASSCE PC1,” the initiative allows candidates to re-sit specific subjects in January and February of 2025.
John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, announced the initiative in a statement, emphasizing its potential to prevent academic delays for students who underperformed or had their results canceled.
“Students who access their results now and realize they need to resit one or two papers have until 8th January to register online through our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés,” Kapi explained. He added that the exams are scheduled to take place from 24th January to 15th February 2025.
The initiative is also open to students whose results have been canceled, provided they have not been banned for examination malpractices. Kapi assured that WAEC’s streamlined registration process via its website or accredited internet cafés ensures accessibility and efficiency for all eligible candidates.
“Students can now avoid a year-long academic setback, thanks to this initiative,” he said, urging prospective candidates to utilize the registration window.
Established in 1952, WAEC conducts examinations in English-speaking West African countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, and Liberia. This latest measure underscores the Council’s commitment to addressing the academic challenges faced by students across the region.
