WAEC Launches DigiCert Platform, Giving Gambian Candidates Faster Access to Certificates

WAEC Digital Certificate Platform

Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has introduced a new Digital Certificate Services System, known as WAEC DigiCert, providing Gambian candidates with a faster and more convenient way to access, confirm, and share their examination certificates.

The digital platform, launched across WAEC’s five member countries, Nigeria, Ghana, The Gambia, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, is expected to ease longstanding administrative challenges faced by candidates seeking to retrieve or verify their academic credentials.

In a statement issued Monday and signed by Demianus Ojijeogu, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC Headquarters in Accra, the Council described DigiCert as a mobile and web-based application designed to deliver “enormous benefits” to stakeholders.

According to WAEC, the platform enables candidates to access digital versions of their original certificates, request and share them electronically, and even recover lost examination numbers, a development likely to benefit many Gambian students who have previously struggled to retrieve vital academic records.

The system is reliable, the authenticity of the certificates is guaranteed, and the cost benefits to users cannot be overstated,” the Council stated.

The introduction of DigiCert is particularly significant for Gambian candidates pursuing higher education or employment opportunities locally and abroad, where timely verification of certificates is often required.

The digital system is expected to reduce delays associated with manual certificate collection and processing.

WAEC noted that the system was first piloted in Nigeria, where it received positive feedback from candidates and educational institutions worldwide, prompting its expansion to other member countries, including The Gambia.

The Council encouraged candidates and institutions to adopt the platform to avoid administrative bottlenecks but clarified that the traditional printing and issuance of physical certificates will continue alongside the new digital service.

The DigiCert mobile application is available for download on both Android and iOS devices, while additional information can be accessed through WAEC’s official website and social media platforms.

Meanwhile, WAEC also announced the release of the 2025 Second Series Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for private candidates.

Candidates in The Gambia and other member states have been advised to check their results online before proceeding to access their digital certificates through the DigiCert platform.

Education stakeholders in The Gambia are expected to welcome the innovation, which could significantly improve efficiency, reduce paperwork, and enhance the credibility and accessibility of academic records in the country.
