Gambiaj.com – (DAKAR, Senegal) – Prominent Senegalese music star Waly Seck is among several high-profile figures targeted in a widening investigation into money laundering and criminal association, as the country’s new Financial Judicial Pool intensifies efforts to dismantle a vast financial network allegedly tied to former regime insiders.

The deputy financial prosecutor has formally requested Seck’s indictment and pre-trial detention alongside Ibrahima Bâ, son of former Prime Minister Amadou Bâ; Cheikh Tidiane Seck, a driver for the former PM; Mamadou Sy; Saliou Sylla; Babacar Niang; and Samuel Sarr, a former minister who is already incarcerated in the West African Energy (WAE) corruption scandal.

The charges follow a supplementary indictment based on an updated report by the Financial Intelligence Unit (CENTIF), received in late March. That report had already led to the prosecution and remand of Farba Ngom, Tahirou Sarr, and others for similar offenses.

According to judicial sources and reports from Senegalese media, the charges under consideration include criminal conspiracy and large-scale money laundering, allegedly committed by an organized group spanning business, political, and entertainment spheres.

A central figure in the ongoing case is Amadou Sall, the son of former President Macky Sall, whom prosecutors consider a key link in the network. He was summoned this Wednesday by the Financial Judicial Pool (PJF) but failed to appear, as he is reportedly in the United States.

Investigators allege that Ibrahima Bâ was involved in the scheme through shell companies and nominee arrangements, most notably a real estate firm, SCI-CTS, reportedly co-owned with Amadou Sall. The company was partially financed through the sale of land in Ouakam in 2012 for 400 million CFA francs to a buyer named Francisco Dlmir Nhaga.

Another suspect, Saliou Sylla, founder of ETS Saliou Sylla, is believed to have withdrawn over 5.5 billion CFA francs in unjustified check transactions.

Prosecutors assert that singer Waly Seck and businessman Mamadou Sy were direct beneficiaries of some of these suspect financial flows.

Former Minister Samuel Sarr is also accused of being entangled in the network, allegedly involved in irregular transactions, including one involving a 200 million CFA franc check.

The CENTIF report, which triggered the latest round of indictments, highlights over 125 billion CFA francs in questionable financial movements tied to companies and individuals connected to Amadou Sall.

As part of its legal action, the financial prosecutor’s office has requested not only the formal charging and detention of the suspects but also the freezing and provisional seizure of assets identified in the CENTIF report.

This case marks one of the most significant financial crime probes since the change of power in Senegal and is seen as a major test of the country’s resolve to hold elites accountable for alleged corruption under previous administrations.
