Gambiaj.com – (DAKAR, Senegal) – Wave, a major player in financial inclusion in Africa, has officially launched a virtual payment card integrated into its mobile application, marking a new step in the expansion of digital financial services in Senegal. The product was unveiled on Friday, January 23, in Dakar through a partnership with global payments company Visa and Ecobank Senegal.

The initiative reflects the shared ambition of the three partners to democratize access to digital payments and strengthen financial inclusion in Senegal and across the African continent.

Fully dematerialized and accessible directly via the Wave application, the virtual card enables users to make online payments on a wide range of platforms, including e-commerce sites, ticketing services, subscriptions, streaming platforms, and other digital services.

According to its promoters, the virtual card is designed to be secure, simple, and easy to use, responding to the growing demand among African consumers for modern and reliable payment solutions that do not involve complex technical or administrative procedures.

For Wave, the launch represents a strategic milestone in its mission to make financial services more accessible.

This launch marks an important milestone in our mission to make financial services as simple and accessible as possible. Thanks to this virtual card integrated into the Wave application, our users will now be able to pay online with the same ease as they carry out their daily transactions,” said Malick Gueye, Managing Director of Wave Senegal. He added that the company was proud to reach this new stage in collaboration with Visa and Ecobank Senegal.

The Wave virtual card is distinguished by its immediate issuance, seamless integration into the application, and user-friendly experience. These features, Wave said, are aligned with the daily needs of millions of users and reinforce the company’s commitment to inclusive and practical financial services.

The initiative also benefited from the support of the Central Bank, which provided regulatory guidance to facilitate implementation. According to Wave, this support made it possible to put in place appropriate risk management systems aimed at protecting users.

Ecobank Senegal is supporting Wave in the marketing of the virtual card, leveraging its expertise in digital financial services and secure payment solutions.

This partnership is fully in line with our strategy as a pan-African bank committed to the development of digital financial services and financial inclusion,” said Sahid Yallou, Managing Director of Ecobank Senegal.

Visa, for its part, brings international security and reliability standards to the solution. “Through this initiative, we are providing millions of users in Senegal with a practical virtual card protected by Visa security standards, facilitating everyday online purchases and contributing to the strengthening of financial inclusion in the country,” said Sandra Gayibor, Country Director of Visa Senegal.

With this launch, Wave Mobile Money, alongside Visa and Ecobank, reaffirms its ambition to make financial services accessible to the widest possible audience.

The initiative is part of Wave’s broader vision of positioning Africa as the world’s first truly cashless continent, where transactions can be carried out simply, quickly, and with full confidence.
