Gambiaj.com – (BRIKAMA, The Gambia) – The West Coast Regional Task Force has arrested a man identified as Yusuff Mendy for his alleged involvement in a visa fraud scheme. The arrest, made on January 17, 2025, follows accusations that Mendy swindled unsuspecting victims out of D585,000 and collected 49 passports under false pretenses, claiming he could secure United Kingdom visas.
A search of Mendy’s residence in Kololi revealed critical evidence, including the 49 passports belonging to citizens of The Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, and Senegal. Authorities also recovered D90,000 in cash believed to be linked to the fraudulent operation.
During the investigation, Mendy disclosed the involvement of two alleged accomplices based in Brikama, who remain at large. Efforts to apprehend them are ongoing.
The West Coast Regional Task Force has urged the public to remain vigilant against scams and report any suspicious activities to the police. “This arrest serves as a reminder for the public to exercise caution and verify the credibility of visa services to avoid falling victim to fraud,” the task force stated.
Mendy is expected to face charges in connection with the alleged fraud. The case underscores the persistent issue of visa scams targeting hopeful travelers and the critical role of law enforcement in protecting the public from exploitation.
Investigations are continuing, with authorities promising updates as they track down the suspect’s accomplices and work to resolve the matter.
