GDC’s Mama Kandeh asks government to addresse corruption, high cost of living
Hon. Mama Kandeh, the Party Leader and Secretary General of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), has emphasized corruption as the most serious threat to the development and progress of The Gambia. He urged the fight against corruption to be ruthless, as an economy that cannot stand on its own must be more willing to end corruption. Kandeh congratulated the Gambia Democratic Congress, the media, and the Gambia populace for their efforts in 2023. He also urged the government to ensure the country’s security and its freedom to attract investors and protect businesses.
Kandeh also highlighted the challenges faced by the health sector, stating that people are losing hope and need to fight harder to regain its integrity. Security forces must be well-equipped to confront criminals, as the population cannot be held hostage. He also addressed the tragic deaths of youths who have lost their lives on the back-way journey to Europe, highlighting the need for tangible solutions.
Lastly, Kandeh called on the government to focus on the high cost of living, which is causing hunger, poor salary scales, health inequalities, weakening food security, and diminishing health and social care. He prayed for peace and a successful year for The Gambia and its citizens.
The message from Fabakary Tombong Jatta is exclusively intended for APRC militants.
The Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) faced challenges from 2017 to 2019, including internal misinformation about its alliance with the National People’s Party. However, the alliance was done in good faith, following consultation with all stakeholders.
The APRC remains one party and will remain united for the betterment of its militants, well-wishers, and sympathizers. The shared aim is to contribute gainfully to the development agenda of the Gambia, end misconceptions, and unite all its green families. A united APRC has tremendous potential for national growth and development. As the party prepares for an inclusive action plan for 2024–2025, the APRC calls on its national executive, regional chairpersons, constituency chairpersons, diaspora branches, and other stakeholders to focus on these agendas for a united APRC for a better Gambia.
The APRC thanks the National Executive Committee for their courage, loyalty, and support, and the diaspora team for their support and commitment, Fabakary Tombong Jatta stated in his New Year message
Essa Faal preaches for every Gambian to access equal opportunities
The Gambia is facing economic hardships and high living costs, with low or no incomes for the majority and high inflation. To address this, the government should consider increasing opportunities for Gambians to access capital and do business, creating more youth employment programs, establishing value creation programs for returnees, and returning people to agriculture.
The country is increasingly dependent on remittances from abroad, and establishing a cordial relationship with Diaspora Gambians is crucial for development. They should be given opportunities, streamlined procedures, greater protection of investments, and a fairer justice system.
Addressing corruption is also essential. National development must be anchored on a vision followed by pragmatic actions, as a stagnant economy could lead to the loss of humanity and the great values for which many love and respect the country.
By taking these steps, the Gambia can overcome the challenges and achieve national development, according to Essa Faal.
