Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL) – In a gripping turn of events at the trial of Arona Tine for the murder of Fatoumatta Kargbo, the prosecution’s first witness, Sanna Cham, testified to a scene of chaos and tragedy. The incident, which occurred at HM Bureau de Change in Westfield, shocked the community and left many questions unanswered.
Cham, a 22-year-old shopkeeper from Sukuta, recounted the day’s events. He described hearing Kargbo’s cries for help and rushing to her aid, only to find her at the shop’s door, holding a knife and covered in blood. Cham testified that he then saw Tine emerge from the bureau, following Kargbo, who was holding the knife and calling for assistance.
In a dramatic twist, Cham stated that Tine fell to the ground, causing the knife to drop. Tine then picked up the knife, stabbed himself in the neck, and retreated back into the shop, where bystanders locked him inside.
During cross-examination, O. Susso, representing Tine, questioned Cham about the sequence of events. Cham maintained that Kargbo did not attack Tine but was pointing the knife in his direction before falling and crawling away as Tine picked up the knife.
The court also heard that Cham had assisted Kargbo in opening and closing the shop but had not seen her on the day of the incident until the tragic events unfolded.
The trial, which has gripped the nation, is set to continue on the 6th of May, where further cross-examination of Cham is expected. The case has raised questions about the circumstances leading to Kargbo’s death and the actions of both the accused and the victim in the moments before the fatal stabbing.
