Gambiaj.com – (Banjul, the Gambia)- Mariama Bella Jallow, a basketball player of Serrekunda West, is set to represent The Gambia in the FIBA Africa Regional Youth Camp in Egypt.

The camp is expected to start on 12th October 2025 and finish on 15th October 2025.

The camp will bring together over 50 girls across Africa.

Jallow will make a dramatic return to the court with an international camp participation. She moved from Kotu Blue Ninjas to Serrekunda West last summer.

Jallow played a key role for Serrekunda West league in the 2024/25 knockout championship, winning all six games.

Furthermore, the 5.7cm point guard played a role in Gambia’s U-16 Fiba Zone 2 championships in Thies, Senegal, where the scorpions won Bronze medal against Guinea-Bissau.

Jallow is also selected to participate in the Fiba Africa regional youth camp.

She is aiming to improve a lot during the camp and Jallow wants to learn as much as she can. “I joined Serrekunda West simply because it’s a club I look up to. I’m just trying to represent my dream club and so far, I haven’t regretted joining them,” Jallow said.

Jallow also stated that girls should believe in themselves in sports, particularly basketball. “I don’t see any difference between boys and girls in playing sports I am really passionate about and I would continue to push”, Jallow pointed out.

Jallow’s love for basketball is what keeps her in the game. She is now set to represent The Gambia in Egypt.

As a girl, I was always told to stop playing basketball. Basketball is just like a legal drug to me,” Jallow said. The camp will give Jallow an opportunity to meet friends and build networks.
