Gambiaj.com – (LISBOA, Portugal) – A 29-year-old Gambian man was brutally attacked on Friday morning in Lisbon, sustaining multiple stab wounds in what authorities suspect was a dispute related to drug trafficking.

The incident occurred at 8:20 AM on Benformoso Street, near Martim Moniz, a known hub for illicit activities. Witnesses reported that the attacker, also a Gambian national, fled the scene immediately after the assault.

According to police sources, the victim, who survived the attack, identified his assailant as a fellow Gambian involved in narcotics peddling in the area.

Emergency responders arrived promptly and found the victim with injuries to his arms, face, and torso. He remained conscious as he was rushed to the hospital, where he is currently in stable condition.

During the police response, a separate suspect was arrested for carrying two large knives. However, authorities have indicated that he may not be linked to the assault. Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies are intensifying efforts to track down the perpetrator, expressing confidence in his imminent capture.

The incident underscores ongoing security concerns in parts of Lisbon, particularly around drug-related violence in certain neighborhoods.
