The candidate of the ruling coalition, Amadou Ba, has announced a declaration for this Monday noon, followed by a surprise entry into the headquarters of the APR located in Mermoz.
Dressed in all white on the terrace of the first floor, Amadou Ba addressed a few words to his supporters. “I am deeply committed to the Republic and the rule of law,” he declared. He also thanked the women and men who have supported him.
“I will return here at noon to give you a definitive assessment. Let us respect the laws of the Republic, let us respect the democratic process, let us respect the verdict of the ballot box,” he insisted. He added, “I am working on the truth, at dawn, I will have it.” The answer will be given this Tuesday at noon.
Amadou Ba’s camp kept journalists waiting for hours in the middle of the night at its headquarters, before announcing laconically that he would speak on Monday.
At least seven of the 17 candidates have congratulated Mr. Faye based on the provisional results published. The certainty of victory has triggered scenes of jubilation among his supporters in the capital.
However, the campaign team of the ruling party’s candidate assured that these demonstrations were premature. They were certain that, “in the worst case scenario,” Mr. Ba would be in the second round.
The militants of the Alliance for the Republic stormed their headquarters on the night of Monday to Tuesday, March 25. Energized, they wanted to prove to the rest of the Senegalese that they were not intimidated by the trends that indicate Bassirou Diomaye Faye as the winner.
After verification with Amadou Ba’s communication team, the announcement that was initially made was confirmed.”
