TACO – Trump Pulls Back From Threats to Expand Iran Attacks for Two Weeks

Gambiaj.com – (WASHINGTON, United States) – Donald Trump has signaled a retreat from earlier threats to dramatically expand military strikes against Iran, saying the United States is close to reaching a broader agreement aimed at securing long-term peace and easing tensions in the Middle East.

In a message posted on the social media platform Truth Social, President Trump said he was pulling back from plans that could have targeted bridges, power plants, and other civilian infrastructure in Iran. The decision, he said, is tied to the possibility of a two-week ceasefire and Tehran’s willingness to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives, and are very far along with a definitive agreement concerning long-term peace with Iran and peace in the Middle East,” Trump wrote. He added that Washington had received a “10-point proposal” from Iran that he believes provides a workable basis for negotiations.

According to Trump, “almost all of the various points of past contention have been agreed to” between the two sides, and the proposed two-week ceasefire period would allow negotiators to finalize a comprehensive deal.

Escalating Rhetoric Raises Alarm

The president’s latest comments marked a notable shift from sharply escalating rhetoric earlier Tuesday, when he warned that “a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again” if Iran failed to reach an agreement that included reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

The remarks drew swift condemnation from Democratic lawmakers, some supporters within Trump’s own political base, and the first American pope.

Trump had also threatened to strike Iranian civilian infrastructure, including bridges, power plants and desalination facilities, if Tehran did not move to reopen the shipping lane, which carries a significant share of the world’s oil supplies.

The warnings prompted legal experts to caution that such actions could violate international law governing armed conflict.

Meanwhile, military operations in the region continued. A White House official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said U.S. forces struck military targets on Iran’s key oil export hub at Kharg Island overnight. It was the second reported strike on the island in recent days.

At the same time, Israeli warplanes reportedly targeted bridges and railway infrastructure inside Iran.

Iranian officials have also hardened their tone. The country’s president said Tuesday that 14 million Iranians, including himself, had volunteered to sacrifice their lives in the conflict, a figure significantly higher than previous numbers cited by state media. Iran has a population of roughly 90 million people.

Despite the ongoing hostilities, diplomatic signals from multiple international actors suggested growing hope that Washington and Tehran could reach a last-minute agreement to halt the fighting and prevent a broader regional escalation.
